Slough was exhibited in Underfoot: sTrAtA (2023) at Gallery152, York.
Slough is a subtle photograph which strays into the territory of the hand-made, by combining digital printing with watercolour. My investigations into the geologic micro- and macro- capture an ambiguous scale effect — between what might be crystal textures and the aerial. The piece speaks of aeons of geological time, and the intimacy of skin and touch as it wavers between the human body and the environment. Folding, metamorphosis, heat, time, and pressure: how can we foster empathy with rocks?
