Mundaring listen/heed I Wednesday June 5 2024
Participants took a break in their day and joined artist Perdita Phillips for a listening walk at Hovea Falls, John Forest National Park. In celebration of World Environment Day and in association with the Australian ecoartspace Dialogues, the listen/heed focussed on ways to listen to the forest, exploring sounds of water (visible and invisible) and below-the-ground (listening in to rocks, soil and microbiological processes). Details of the drawings can be seen above.
Mundaring listen/heed II Sunday 16 June 2024
This event was a temporary micro-installation near the Mundaring Sculpture Park. Interacting with the Jacoby Street urban forest, the tiny sculptural creation directed our attention to rocks, soil and microbiological processes in the context of the ecological futures of the Jarrah forests of Western Australia. After the driest summer on record, the forest has many dead trees that are evidence of “forest bleaching”. The sculpture only lasted from 12-2pm on Sunday June 16 2024. The work was part of Artists in Nature International Network‘s Forests’ Creations for Les Nuits des Forêts – Forests’ Nights.
